Can't think of to many series that got aborted in their primer really.

Can think of a few that should have though. :D

Ya, Final Fantasy should have been ended after 9. Breath of Fire at 3. Call of Duty...long long long ago. The Hitman...Blood Rites.

FFX seems fine enought the be still included. Agreeing on BoF. CoD should have ended after Modern Warfare. Hitman... that's a bit of a weird case.

FFX could have been a non-FF game and faired just as well. In fact...I think it'd have worked better. FFX-2 got a lot of flack for being a direct FF Sequel which hadn't happened before then. I think it'd have been taken a little better had people not looked at it and thought "Eww...A FF sequel".

FF7-9 could have sold well as non FF games and worked well.
FFX-2 was painfully weird. That title was give to drive in cash on FFX's popularity.

I agree to a point, FFX2 still got good ratings. I personally, and that's all it is is an opinion, thought that it could have sold better had the idea that it was just cashing in on the success of another FF game not been attached. Sequels are always somewhat reliant on how well the first game did. If FFX was called something else all people would have seen was "Oh, that's just the sequel to X".

Could take an approach like 999 did for the DS. There are multiple endings, but only one is the true ending. The others are considered "bad", but all is explained in the true ending and it's all like woah.....

How the true end is unlocked?

This method isn't suited for all games, but it has 6 endings. 3 "bad" endings that raise questions, 1 "normal" ending, the true ending, and a "dummy" ending that most people suggest you avoid. There is no true order, but you do need to finish some bad endings first to progress to the normal ending and then move onto the true ending that answers everything. The good thing is that achieving different endings will you see accompanied by different characters of the group - this way the conversations and rooms (with puzzles and exploring) are different for some playthroughs.

So it's not really like their endings but...breaks in the gameplay?

So it's not really like their endings but...breaks in the gameplay?

You start fresh each playthrough. Once you get one of the endings you save and restart and try to get the other endings until you unlock the real one. You have to accomplish certain things and select certain routes to obtain the endings. This sees you travel to different areas vs other playthroughs, converse and travel with different characters, and different puzzles. Using a guide does make things easier after the first playthrough, but it's better to play it first blindly and get whatever ending you do. The "bad endings" make you want to start over and find out more clues to the story until you get the final ending which pieces together all the events over the playthroughs and reveals pretty much everything you want to know.
