Hobbies outside of gaming
« on: April 21, 2013, 04:21:07 PM »
When I am involved in a community, I am always interested to see what people are interested in outside of gaming.

I personally am an avid fan of MMA (especially the UFC), play basketball, enjoy reading, travel as much as possible, and love running.

What are yours?

If I'm not playing a game (or at work and school) I enjoying being outside and going for walks/runs.  I'm also an art and animal lover.  I enjoy doodling and expressing my imagination through artwork. (Keep an eye out for the fan submissions, I'm sure to do something soon) I also own a Leopard Gecko and my girlfriend owns a Bearded Dragon so were always doing something with those reptiles and hope to own more someday.  I just recently learned that I also love Renaissance Festivals and want to make it a plan to go to a local one every year.   My project as of the moment is making a Plague Doctor costume for the festival!

I have a less than normal pet (not cat or dog) as well, a hedgehog.  We are planning on hitting up a few of the festivals up here in PA this year as well.  Always wanted to go to one.  Hope your costume goes well!

Ohh! I always wanted a hedgehog as well!  And the festivals are loads of fun if you're into that sort of thing! Thanks! When it's all done, maybe I'll share it!

Art guy here. As long as it has something to do with art, I'll do it. Recently spraying stencils have caught my attention. It cannot beat going into the woods with a sketchpad or my belowed wacom, but that's ok. ^^
I like soldering diverse contraptions and some programming on the side as well.

What, I need hobbies outside of the house as well? Let's see...
Fan of swimming and pumping weights. Cycling isn't that bad either.

I also own a Leopard Gecko and my girlfriend owns a Bearded Dragon so were always doing something with those reptiles and hope to own more someday.

Everytime I go past the pet shop I have to force myself not to a gecko (or this amazing chameleon they got recently).
I simply don't have to money and time for one of these little guys.

Nice to see another art lover! And in all honesty Leopard Geckos are really easy to take care of.  They are nocturnal so while at work/school he's asleep and when I come back at night he's up and ready.  They take care don't get me wrong, but not as much hassle as most think!  Buying their setup can be expensive however.

I cook a good deal, is that a hobby? I'm trained in Indian, Japanese and Korean cooking but have an interest in just about any style of food. The spicier the better, found a Morgua Scorpion the other day and threw it into a pot of curry I'd been working on. It was a rush to say the least. I like to listen to music, check the Music Thread for just a sample, and...that's really about it outside of gaming. I used to play both the piano and clarante but after highschool I started moving to much to carry either with me or practice so I'm at the moment without an instrument. Looking at the melodica to start up or perhaps the banjo. I also do Let's Plays but I suppose that's really part of gaming. That's my newest hobby at the very least.

Gaming is my life, but when I'm not playing games I'm reading or writing or watching movies... I just like a lot of entertainment-related stuff.

I'm in college majoring in Game Design right now, so whatever I can do to help me get better with storyboarding, creating mechanics, and creative writing in general is more or less my hobby. I'm also trying to get better with art, but I'm definitely not an artist naturally, so I've got a long way to go and a lot of practice before I get half-decent at art; it's an aspiration of mine. For now I just do a lot of sketchbook drawing/doodling, it's fun and hopefully it'll help me improve. :)

Thank you! ^_^ Really I first started doing videos (very crappy ones) to remedy my social awkwardness when talking to people, and for the most part it's been a success over the years. Aside from that, it's just a really good way to spread interest in the weird and obscure games I play. The best feeling is when I get a message from somebody saying that they ended up checking a game out for themselves because of my videos.

Now, I've put my channel mostly on hiatus so I can focus on college, and I'm hoping that I'll end up getting good enough with fancy artistic and technical skills that perhaps I'll be able to contribute to the modding community for DD when it comes around!

That's a helluva thing. I tried the mango habanero wings at Buffalo Wild Wings and thought my face was going to melt off, so I can't imagine the searing fireballs of torment something like that would bring forth.

Hobbies: I do truly game as a hobby in addition to professional "research". My wife and I have a lot of houseplants and we garden as well (though the weather in Missouri can be drastic, to say the least). I play D&D on Friday nights and I always bring a bag of LEGOs to fill the time while the other guys are trying to figure out how their characters will get us killed; over the course of time I've crafted an armada of spaceships in differing factions. So maybe D&D + LEGOs is a double hobby.
