New Zelda Announced!
« on: April 17, 2013, 01:16:29 PM »
Some exciting news out of the Hyrule Camp today, and I felt it was especially relevant here given the influence that Link the the Past has for Delver's Drop.  Check it out:

I just read this as well, and it looks pretty awesome. A shame that I do not have a 3DS. :(

Did anyone notice that trick where Link was flattened against the wall?  That is a pretty insane mechanic.

My opinion:

• Great to go back to LttP in look and feel. I'm happy that it's a New Super Mario Bros. style revitalization of the old 2D variant of the series.
• Maybe one of the more interesting Zelda gimmicks - both the popping up to higher tiers of the level and the 2D wall-movement. I'd rather that than more world transportation gimmicks (boats, trains, birds...)
• Art - again kind of cool that it looks almost exactly like LttP in the overworld. But it's kind of... bland. Maybe it's just the low-res / low-poly 3DS and lack of cool shaders, but it needs some atmosphere or something to give it some life. Coby described it as looking like clay-mation, and I think that's a pretty good summary.
• Gameplay looks fine, I'm personally glad it's more top-down/2D in nature rather than 3D Ocarina style.

So... wary yet hopeful?

I seriously need to get the 3DS. For that new Pokemon game and maybe this Zelda one.

Completely agree on this one!  I was ready for another top down one, though I really would like to use the buttons instead of the stylus.

The Wii U and 3DS are actually the first Nintendo systems I've just flat out skipped. I love me some Zelda, Mario, and the sort, but there just never are enough games out there for me to warrant the purchase of their hardware.

The return to LTTP is a good thing though. Hopefully it plays like it. The DS Zelda games' controls drove me crazy.

The stylus controls weren't my taste either. The DS games weren't up to the quality of previous titles.

I certainly agree about the quality.  Though they were sequels to the Wind Waker, it just felt like there was so much lost.

I love this news. ALTTP is my favorite Zelda game and incarnation of Link. It looks like they finally gave the poor guy pants/tights this time as well.

I didn't notice that.  That is pretty funny!

Between rekindling my childhood obsession with Pokemon and Zelda, this might be a reason to get a 3DS
