Misleading release date
« on: March 23, 2014, 06:56:50 PM »
Hello all!

New guy to the forums, but I've been anticipating DD since Totalbiscuit covered it at Pax 2013 - I'm still really looking forward to it.

One thing though, and I realize that this doesn't really make a fantastic impression of me right off the bat, but wouldn't it be a good idea to change the release dates found all over the site(s) to point to the ACTUAL expected release date?

At the moment EVERY I have looked said mid 2013, with the exception of the actual pre order page. I don't mind so much that it's taking a bit longer than expected, but my first reaction to the old expected RD was along the lines of "Oh no, has it been discontinued?!". It took some real digging to find that the full release is actually only expected mid this year.

I do also realize that it is available for pre purchase and early access, but I hate playing games before they are finished. Kinda ruins the surprise :3

Other from that, the game is looking good from what I have seen, keep up the good work and I hope to throw my money at you when the game is released! I hear that it's been approved for greenlight as well, so congratulations there as well!

Do you remember which websites had the incorrect release dates? As you said, we have updated our own website (delversdrop.com), but the only other site I can think of with a release date would be the Kickstarter - and unfortunately you cannot edit a Kickstarter page after the campaign has ended (Kickstarter policy). So we have been trying to stay in touch with everyone via Kickstarter updates and our own mailing list to keep them posted on progress. We do need to update our Steam Greenlight page, which should be happening soon. Any others?

Thanks!

The main culprit would be http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=124366711 (the steam page for it) and the FB page https://www.facebook.com/DelversDrop/info. I had though that http://delversdrop.com/ was marked as 2013, but you've either changed it, or I'm talking outta my arse. There was also something on http://pixelscopic.com/presskit/sheet.php?p=delvers_drop (I assume that's yours?) and I do realize that this ISN'T your site, but giant bomb has a wiki that is marked incorrectly as well http://www.giantbomb.com/delvers-drop/3030-39472/

Hope that helps :)

Thanks for all the information - that is seriously appreciated!

I actually looked into changing the Greenlight page date before, but was unable to. However, I just went there this moment and they had an "Edit Release" button front and center. So I've changed that.

I've also fixed the Facebook page now. I'm not sure how to change the Presskit page or Giant Bomb page but we will get those in line as well.

Again, thanks a bunch!

Yep, the date is wrong. This is what is on their twitter.

While it stinks that we won't see a finished version by the end of this year. The good news is they are trying to make it as fun as possible for release. That's the nice thing about these games is it can only get better from here. Unless you are duke nukem forever. (But I doubt that will be the issue, these guys have been posting updates regularly).

Sorry.

 :( :( :( :(

I've gone through and updated: Facebook, DDrop site, Twitter, and Steam (GL) pages. If you know of any others, please let me know, and I will "fix" them too.

Yes, as someone commented earlier, probably next year is probably correct. We've had a pretty tumultuous last 6 weeks and apologize profusely for the extended silence during that period - we've almost got our ducks back in a row to hit it heavy again and of course, we'll be more active here. Thanks very much for your support (and undying patience, I know we are a trying lot) and if you have any questions, these be the hallowed halls to let them fly.

Don't worry, the demo right now feels really polished.  :D

I've tried programming games. The one thing I got out of it is you need a lot of time and talent if you want it to work. While I would love to see the game right now, you guys take your time and make it right. It's how Valve has always done their games and look how successful they are. Half-life 2 took them 5 years to make. They would not settle for anything less than a complete game. Because they took their time to make it, it is one of the best fps of all time. So never give into the pressure that you must finish the game right now.

Anyways, I do have a question. I hadn't heard about Devler's Drop until a month ago. I missed out on the demo with the bottomless pit (or something similar). Will there be a demo similar to that in the near future?

Thanks for the positive words - truly means a lot.

We definitely tend to the perfectionist side...probably too much so for our own good, but there is starting to mount a lot of internal "ship it" kind of pressure, so we'll see where we land :D

I'll PM you some old build info in a second.

Perfect! An older build of the game is what I was looking for.

I know it's tough when you got this awesome thing you want to share. One great thing about steam is the fact you can update it long after it's release. So get it to a comfortable spot and from there it will be smooth sailing. I honestly don't know of any games on the PC that were bug free on the first day. So don't worry if it's not absolutely perfect but don't lower your standards either. It's because of those standards that the game is in the shape now.

So don't sweat it. You will know when the time is right. I don't visit these forums often but I'm rooting for you all :D

I've been following this game since the Kickstarter and am very excited to see it released.  Quick question: Are the iOS and Android ports still planned at release or are they further delayed / canceled?  I'm really looking forward to playing this on my Nvidia Shield controller.

I've created a new thread here: Dec 2014 update, which will be getting a nice and detailed post later this evening and has a high level overview in the mean time. It will answer a lot of questions, probably raise some more, and can serve as a nice Q&A space for this discussion.
