Okay, new term to weigh in on:

We have a material that is basically "elemental coal" - it is black and coal-like but might glow slightly from its core. It can burn with *any* element if ignited. So you could have a subdue (ice) flame burning this material. You should also know that it could be considered to be a stable form of Murk - since murk is a primordial soup of all possible types of matter (and energy), this coal is a refined and stable version of murk, manufactured on a forge world by the gods (think a planetary elemental volcano rising from the murk). They formed this volcanic core to manufacture this coal to use as building blocks for worlds and beings - it could be further refined into other materials, or used as fuel for elemental energy. Gems are probably refined versions of this material, such that they contain only one type of elemental energy - so a Ruby would be a fury gem.

The word for the companions / familiars that you can summon (in companion mode) need to be related to the word for the above. The companions are magical beings (kind of like Pokemon, Harry Potter Patronuses, or Skylanders). They are formed out of elemental components - so any given companion monster might be made of 2 parts fury, 3 parts force, and 1 part foundation. If destroyed, they break into these components in gem-like fragments representing slightly refined versions of the above "elemental coal" - so for instance they would break into 2 fury-coal-gems and 3 force-coal-gems, etc.

The name for the companion monsters needs to be short and catchy.

Anyway, here were some ideas we had for the names:

MATERIAL --- COMPANIONS
Plasmacite --- Plasminions, (root is plasma)
Prymite --- Pryminions, (root is Pryme = prime)
Prysmite --- Prysminions, (root is Prysm = prism)
Aethrite --- Aethralls, (root is Aether)
Magicite (already used by a bunch of games)
Elementhralls for the monsters, can't come up with a good name for the material unless we did Elementite, which is kind of long.

Leaning toward Prymite and Pryminions

I'd say use Proto as root.

You say "coal" is the building block or everything, so it's the one most fitting. Protocite, Protominion (-cite and -mite are a bit too similar).

Yeah, I like the ring of Proto as well. Prymite makes me think of Primate, so I don't know if it'd cast up the right imagery. Protomites maybe. Instead of Minions, what other names could be used? Maybe Gremlins or something similar? Protomlins? I really can't think too hard about it right now, I've got class in like 5 minutes, gotta run! XD

I really like Proto -- Protomite also sounds really awesome. I'll chime back in if I think of more to add to the conversation!

Depending on the context, proto might actually be pretty interesting, from a storytelling perspective.

Also, seriouslysean's profile pic is friggin tight.

Hey, guys. I've been working on our "spell" types list, and wanted to see if I was missing anything. Here are the restrictions:
• They should be "spawned" spell effects that occur in the world - projectiles, shields, etc that have a physical presence.
• This does not include status effects, debuffs, and the like, or any other "invisible"-ish effects.
• Nothing too crazy or AI-driven, or requiring super complex rules like FFT calculators.

Damn, I was totally going to suggest the Calculator type stuff but that probably should be reserved for a more tactics type game.

Pretty good selection, but I guess you miss 2 major ones.

Aura - An effect that covers a certain area around an object, reven if it's moving around.
Example: A time bubble will slow down any enemies that move in a small radius around you.

AND

Global: Effects a group of objects in the WHOLE room.
Example: The cry of the berserker will cause all enemies in the room to run away in panic.

Solid-looking list I'd say. I like the ones Doom mentioned, I'm sure there are others I can't think of right now but all things considered that's a very sizable list for all the different spell effects we'll be able to use/have used on us. Don't want to overload it too much past what's already there! XD I can see Encircling looking really nice with the magic effects we've seen thus far. Maybe have a way to expand/contract the circle around you? Or have a button that can have the remaining circling projectiles shoot out away from the player, dealing more damage but immediately ending the effect?

Inspired by last Friday's Art Stream when talking about the Elemental Wraiths. Just some more random ideas I thought I'd throw out. Also, posted this in the Chatbox but the Surge-Ling should be called a Seedling or a Sapling.

Fury: Obviously Candlewraith, already in.

Strike: As funny as it might be to propose, a pressure cooker came to mind. Might be a bit to hightech for the DDrop world however.

Force: Doom proposed a fan, seems it'd be a good fit.

Surge: Proposed a Plant Potter during the Live Stream. Someone else proposed the name Bloomwraith

Fount: Proposed a Water Jug during the Livestream. Could call it

Subdue:

Foundation: Maybe a shovel that flung little Foundationlings (Gravelings?) at the player?

Sunder/Spoil:

Radiant:

Muddle: Perhaps a mortar and pestle since the object is used to grind and combine different types of substances together? Mortarwraith?

Murk:

Anyone else have ideas while we're just theory crafting and what not?
