Star Wars Battlefront
« on: March 29, 2015, 12:58:25 PM »
This would have to be the game I am most excited for. The Battlefront series was arguably one of the most enjoyable franchises to come from LucasArts. After their shutdown and purchase by Disney then the new IP being developed by DICE; there is a ton of potential for this game to be an absolute hit upon its release. Though not much but a few vague screenshots have been shared with the public, many are expecting several big announcements for the game in April and later this summer possibly at E3. What are your hopes for the game? What are your thoughts on DICE being over it?

I'm so friggin excited. You have no idea. I was a huge fan as a kid. Before we had access to online gaming, my friends and I used to come over to each other's places and play. While Xbox people were playing Halo, my posse were digging through Battlefront, looking for all the ways to break the game.

And don't get me started on how well the campaign modes played for Battlefront II. Sure, it was simplified, but the story felt like you were learning something new about the Star Wars universe. In fact, Battlefront II is the only reason I knew that Clone Troopers were eventually decommissioned and replaced by regular, home-bred people in the Imperial army.

I'm really interested in seeing if they throw in a heroes mode, to fulfill all of our fan-fiction shipping cravings.

Something I'm also hoping they fix is the mechanics for taking down AT-ATs with Snowspeeders. It was always a cumbersome task for me.

Agreed, My childhood consisted of alot of Star Wars Republic Commando, Battlefront 2, and Halo 2. So many hours of gameplay I would be afraid to look. But its because of those games that the shooter genres have survived for so long.

Hype about game trailers never made sense to me. People got hyped about Titanfall and Destiny and Assassins Creed: Unity. Look where that got us.

I really want to be excited about this game, but having not grown up on Star Wars and not really playing games like this, while the trailer's great...guess I'm just happy seeing my friends be happy  :o

You mean "Barebones Game 1", "Baby's First MMO with 320 million marketing budget" and "Assassins Cash-In:Annual Edition"? Titanfall at least was a good game and would still be alive if it had more substance though. But hey, Titanfall 2 announced already, gotta but the update!

It's obvious that EA is banking on all the naive people that liked the previous games and sells on the name alone. Just like with about every other franchise they've did in the last few years. Dragon Age, Mass Effect, Battlefield, Dead Space, Dungeon Keeper, Rockband, Medal of Honor, Army of Two, FIFA, Madden, The Sims...

Any game from EA you liked a decade ago? I bet they fucked it up by now.

People just wait for the praise until you see the actual game for once I guess...

Well for the positives from the trailer, it sure looks fun fighting in forest or snow areas (don't you forget snowstorms!) again.

Its not so much the hype of the trailer as it is getting a first look at the game. Up until yesterday not much had been seen about the game. The trailer looked beautiful and has a lot of potential for being a great game. Frostbite is a great engine and it appears that Battlefront will truly be a next gen title. I was never a fan of Assassins Creed, but the art direction and storylines I always found intriguing. Yes people talk a lot of trash on EA but EA has delivered more variety in the way of stories and game concepts than most publishers have ever done. A lot of times those games may fail but they gave it a shot and everynow and then we get a gem.

Star Wars Battlefront seems to be a perfect storm. Dice is not known for telling a great story, so with Star Wars they are already provided with the story and the universe. If they stay true to some of the original mechanics from the original games mixed with frostbite engine and their large scale battle mentality I can see this game being one of those success's. The Star Wars community is very picky and they know what they want. So failure to deliver a solid game to that community when the new movie is coming out is not an option.
